Nepalis are a diverse and unique people with many ethnic and caste groups. Castes and status are a dominant part of Nepali culture. Extended families often live together.
Farming is the main occupation and most rural families raise their own food and sell the excess. Rice, corn, wheat, millet, and barley are examples of crops grown. About 80% of Nepalis are Hindus and 10% Buddhist, so the culture reflects a wealth of religious festivals, practices, and traditions. Nepalis are generally a tolerant and kind people.
